CHEROKEE SPLIT WEEKEND SERIES
(DROP FRIDAY’S GAME TO METRO BEAT WOOSTER ON SATURDAY)
Toledo OH – The Toledo Cherokee earned a weekend split this past weekend when they played host to the Metro Jets on Friday evening and the Wooster Oilers on Saturday night.
The Cherokee dropped the Friday night contest by a score of 8-4 to the Jets. Ricky Kwapich (Toledo OH) led the way for the Cherokee scoring two goals while adding two assists. Tristin Snyder (Oregon OH) and EJ Gilbert (Dexter MI) each had a goal and one assist. Ben Hamilton (Toledo OH) added two assists for Toledo. Nolan Stanley (Boise ID) had one assist. Jeremy Hamerquist (Woodland Park CO) made 53 saves in goal for Toledo on 61 shots.
“We didn’t get off to the best start on Friday, but found a way to tie the game late in the first period. I felt like we ran out of gas in third and they were able to put the game out of reach late in the game.” Said head coach Kenny Miller
Toledo rebounded on Saturday night when the Wooster Oilers visited the Team Toledo Ice House by knocking off the Oilers by a score of 3-1. Rookie Brock Grandbois (Tecumseh ON) netted his first junior goal and added an assist. Anthony Weinrich (Toledo OH) also scored his first junior goal to tie the game at one, midway thru the second period. Kwapich added a goal and an assist for Toledo. Snyder had two assists for the Cherokee. And Will DelVerne (Sylvania OH) also had an assist. Adrain Morales (Monroe MI) made 35 saves in net for Toledo picking up his second win of the season.
“We were better on Saturday, I thought we played a good third period. As a group we know we are going to have to be better if we plan on winning in this division.” Added Miller
The Cherokee are idle this weekend with no games on the schedule. Toledo will travel to Cincinnati on October 1st for a two game set in the Queen City.
