CHEROKEE EARN WEEKEND SPLIT

(WIN FRIDAY AT HOME, DROP SATURDAY’S GAME AT WOOSTER)

Toledo OH: The Toledo Cherokee split a weekend series against the Wooster Oilers in NA3HL action on Friday and Saturday night. Toledo took game one of the series Friday at home by a score of 6-5 in overtime. The Oilers knocked off the Cherokee Saturday night in Wooster 5-1.

Toledo won a thriller on Friday night coming back from two goals down to defeat the Oilers 6-5 in OT. Ricky Kwapich (Toledo OH) scored the game winning goal and also added three assists on the night. Anthony Weinrich (Toledo OH) scored one goal and added two assists. EJ Gilbert (Dexter MI) scored a pair for Toledo. Dustin Foran (Clinton Twp. MI) and Brock Grandbois (Tecumseh ON) each scored one goal for the Cherokee. Tristin Snyder (Oregon OH) added three assists. Blake Mullins (Oregon OH), Darryl Kuchcinski (Temperance MI) and Will DelVerne (Sylvania OH) all had one assist.  Jeremy Hamerquist (Woodland Park CO) earned the victory in net for the Cherokee.

“Our guys found a way to pick up the win, even when they were down they battled hard and were rewarded with two points.” Said head coach Kenny Miller

It was all Wooster on Saturday the Cherokee came out flat and were down 3-0 after forty minutes of play, Toledo scored early in the third off the stick of Weinrich, Teddy Tarvis (St. Charles IL) and Foran assisted on the lone Toledo goal. Wooster would add two empty net goals to win 5-1. Jeremy Hamerquist started in goal for Toledo making 25 saves on 28 shots.

“As a group we have to play for sixty minutes and on Saturday we only showed up for the last twenty and you will not win in this league only playing twenty minutes a night.” Added Miller

The Cherokee return home Friday night when they play host to the Metro Jets face off is set for 7:00PM at the Team Toledo Ice House. Toledo will then travel to Battle Creek on Saturday to play the West Michigan Wolves. Game time for Saturday’s contest will be 7:00PM
