CHEROKEE SPLIT WEEKEND SERIES
(PICK UP WIN ON SATURDAY FALL ON SUNDAY)
Toledo OH – The Toledo Cherokee earned a weekend split this past weekend when they traveled to Pittsburgh to take on the Vengeance.
The Cherokee picked up a 4-2 win on Saturday night, Tristin Snyder (Oregon OH) scored twice in the win. Spencer Sandberg (Fort Wayne IN) and EJ Gilbert (Dexter MI) also scored for Toledo. Jack Ores (Livonia MI), Zach Perry (Waterford MI), Blake Mullins (Oregon OH) and Sandberg each had one assist.
Ricardo Gonzalez (Davidson MI) picked up the win making 44 saves on 46 shots to earn his third victory of the season.
“I thought we played well enough to win on Saturday, we got a few timely goals and that was the difference.” Said head coach Kenny Miller
On Sunday the Cherokee were out played and needed a great performance in goal by Alan Brouillette (Livonia MI). Brouillette made 45 saves on 48 shots as the Cherokee fell 3-1. Anthony Weinrich (Toledo OH) scored the lone goal for Toledo on the power-play. Snyder drew the only assist.
“We were not good Sunday, as a group we have to understand that if you don’t bring it every game in this division were not going to win many games.” Said Miller
The Cherokee travel to Lansing on Friday night to take on the Wolves before returning home on Saturday for their home opener.
Saturday’s game will be in conjunction with GTAHA day at the Ice House, fans are encouraged to come early and tailgate. “GTAHA day is a big event for our organization and the youth hockey association, we would like to have a packed house for our home opener.” Added Miller
Saturday is also the annual soap game for the Cherokee, no admission will be charged the Cherokee ask that fans bring a package of soap or shampoo in order to get in the game.
