CHEROKEE SWEEP THUNDER
(HEAD TO METRO WEDNESDAY, PITTSBURGH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY)
Toledo OH: The Toledo Cherokee skated to a two game sweep over the weekend against the Cincinnati Thunder at the Team Toledo Ice House.
On Friday the Cherokee would come away with a 2-1 OT victory, Ricky Kwapich (Toledo OH) scored the winner in overtime. Tristin Snyder (Oregon OH) also scored for Toledo. Ben Hamilton (Toledo OH) had two assists, while Adam Felser (Sylvania OH) and Kwapich each had one.
Roman Malkov (Yaroslavl RUS) made 29 saves to earn the win in goal for Toledo.
“I thought our guys played well on Friday, we battled for sixty plus minutes and earned a tough two points.” Said head coach Kenny Miller
On an emotional Saturday night when the team honored former Ice House owner and team president Ken Miller Sr. who passed away two years ago the Cherokee didn’t disappoint the large crowd announced at 808 with a 3-2 shootout win. Ethan Resetar (Plymouth MI) and EJ Gilbert (Dexter MI) scored in regulation for the Cherokee. Felser would score the game winner in the shootout for Toledo. Nolan Stanley (Boise ID) Anthony Weinrich (Toledo OH), Kwapich and Hamilton each had one assist.
Malkov won his second straight game in goal for Toledo making 33 saves.
“Our guys wanted to win this one bad and they showed they were ready to play, I am so proud of them for the way they came to the rink on Saturday focused and ready to go on such a special night.” Added Miller
The Cherokee will travel to Fraser MI on Wednesday night (7:30PM) to take on the Metro Jets before heading to Pittsburgh for a two game set against the Vengeance. Saturday’s game in Pittsburgh is set for 6:40PM and Sunday is at 11:40AM.
