Toledo OH:         The Toledo Cherokee skated to a two game sweep over the weekend against the Wooster Oilers on Friday and the Southern Tier Xpress on Saturday. Both games were on the road.

On Friday the Cherokee would come away with a 3-2 victory, Ricky Kwapich (Toledo OH) led the way with a goal and two assists. Tristin Snyder (Oregon OH) had one goal and one assist, while Nick Nappi (Plant City FL) scored for Toledo as well. Ben Hamilton (Toledo OH) chipped in with two assists. Adam Felser (Sylvania OH) also assisted on a Toledo goal.

Roman Malkov (Yaroslavl RUS) made 38 saves in goal for the Cherokee to pick up his ninth win of the season.

“I thought our guys played well on Friday, he got timely goals and great goaltending and that was the difference in the game.” Said head coach Kenny Miller

In Jamestown NY on Saturday evening the Cherokee jumped out to an early two goal lead and held onto to win 2-1 against the Xpress. Brock Grandbois (Tecumseh ON) opened the scoring for Toledo. Kwapich and Snyder assisted on the power play marker. Kwapich would score next off the face off win by Snyder to give the Cherokee a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes. Neither team would score in the second period. Southern Tier would score the only goal in the third but it wasn’t enough as the Cherokee would hold on for the win.

Malkov got his second straight start and made 55 saves for the win.

“We were outplayed on Saturday, but our guys found a way to get the win. We had a short bench and as a group we stuck with it and I am proud of how hard the guys played.” Added Miller

The Cherokee return home Friday when they play host to the West Michigan Wolves face off is set for 7:00PM. On Saturday the Cherokee will travel to Battle Creek MI to take on the Wolves at 7:00PM.
