Toledo OH –        The Toledo Cherokee came away with a two game sweep over division rival West Michigan last weekend.

On Friday at the Team Toledo Ice House the Cherokee skated to a 3-2 victory.  Tristin Snyder (Oregon OH) opened the scoring with a short-handed goal. Ricky Kwapich (Toledo OH) and Blake Mullins (Oregon OH) assisted on the goal. West Michigan would take a 2-1 lead heading into the third period. The Cherokee would score two unanswered goals in the third to claim the win. Ethan Resetar (Northville MI) scored his first of the season to tie the game at two. Kwapich and Ben Hamilton (Toledo OH) drew the assists. Brock Grandbois (Tecumseh ON) would score the game winner on a breakaway mid-way thru the third period. Will DelVerne (Sylvania OH) and Resetar assisted on the game winning goal. Roman Malkov (Yaroslavl RU) made 33 saves to earn his sixth victory for Toledo.

“I thought our guys played a good game, we were very good in the third period and that’s what helped us get the win.” Said head coach Kenny Miller

Toledo traveled to Battle Creek on Saturday.  Neither team could find the back of the net during regulation or overtime so the game had to be decided in the shoot-out. The Cherokee came away with the 1-0 win. EJ Gilbert (Dexter MI) and Hamilton scored for Toledo in the shootout. Adrian Morales (Monroe MI) stopped all 41 shots he faced to earn his first junior shutout.

“That was a fun game to be a part of, our guys played well and Adrian was the difference he was awesome all night.” Added Miller

The Tribe will host the same West Michigan Wolves on Friday evening at the Ice House face off is set for 7:00PM. Toledo will then travel to Metro on Sunday to play the first place Jets. Face off for that game is at 12:45PM.
