The Pittsburgh Vengeance survived a determined comeback attempt by the Toledo Cherokee on the way to a 2-1 win.
The Vengeance were led by goalie Jason Kumpfmiller, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Kumpfmiller will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.3.
Pittsburgh excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.
Pittsburgh also got points from Cody Black, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Pittsburgh came via Tom Diffendal and Michael Straub, who each chipped in one.
The Vengeance were unable to stop the Cherokee from sending pucks towards the net, and Toledo eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.
Pittsburgh incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Cherokee\’s Clay Horvath stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Toledo incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
