Ricardo Gonzalez came up big, stopping 26 of 29 shots throughout the game. The Toledo Cherokee took the lead before the halfway point in the third on a goal from Spencer Sandberg.
Anthony Weinrich had a busy night with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) and Adam Felser contributed with 2 assists. Cole Barney chipped in with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) and Daniel Critzer did his part, adding 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist).
In the first period, Barney opened the scoring for the Oilers with a goal at 1:45 with helpers from his teammates Banyasz and Critzer. Weinrich answered for the Cherokee with a goal at 13:46 with helpers from Felser and Sandberg. Cummings deposited a goal at 16:06 with assists from Kuchcinski and Makowski. Weinrich quickly followed with a goal at 17:24 with helpers from his teammates Sandberg and Felser.
In the second period, Frieson answered for the Oilers with a goal at 1:30 with assists from his linemates, Crosby and Zwierecki.
During the third, Sandberg answered for Toledo with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 9:36 with helpers from Weinrich and Ressler. Critzer answered for Wooster with a goal at 11:48 with assists from Banyasz and Barney. Sandberg answered for the Cherokee with a goal at 19:57.
Toledo’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Gonzalez’s big night as he stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced. Gonzalez’s counterpart, Gillis, also had a big night, managing to stop 7 of 9, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Toledo Cherokee’s record to (11-23-1-0).
