In the first period, Gilbert opened the scoring for Toledo with a goal at 4:45 with a helper from his linemate Gonzalez.
During the second, Payne answered for the Xpress with a goal at 5:01 with helpers from his linemates, Keller and Muecke. Perry answered for the Cherokee with a goal at 16:25 with an assist from Sandberg. Papaioannou deposited what turned out to be the game winning goal at 18:54 with assists from his linemates, Williams and Nappi.
During the third period, Nappi netted a goal at 12:56 with helpers from his linemates, Papaioannou and Williams. Restle answered for the Xpress with a goal at 15:47 with assists from his linemates, Paar and Mock.
The Cherokee’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Gonzalez’s big night as he stopped 55 of the 57 shots he faced. Gonzalez’s counterpart, Pascarella, also had a big night, managing to stop 34 of 38, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Toledo Cherokee’s record to (5-3-0-0).
